A Collective of Collectives
An initiative to connect the many independent artist-run and project spaces that operate in the Athenian neighbourhoods.
A collective efford to focus on the developing art scene of Athens and get to know each other.
In recent years, Athens has seen an explosion in its artistic community. Beyond the large profit-oriented institutions and galleries, much of the artistic production and creation by new/emerging artists and communities is housed and developed in self-managed/independent spaces. These collective-based spaces have created a large artistic community, and here we bring you the coming together of all these communities in the Collective of collectives.
"A Collective of collectives" aims to strengthen all the self-funded initiatives that constitute the contemporary incubator of the underground, experimental, cultural scene in Athens.
By creating connections between art spaces across Athens, we seek to promote greater accessibility, visibility and collaboration in the local art community. We aim to empower art spaces, artists, curators to reach a wider audience, share resources and collaborate to enhance the city's cultural landscape.
Through a comprehensive mapping and outreach initiative, we will create a network of self-managed art spaces, promoting partnerships and joint programming that brings to the fore the diverse artistic voices of Athens. At the same time, by making it easier for people to discover, access and engage with these spaces, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the city's art scene and provide a platform for creatives to thrive.
This project is more than just a catalogue or an advertising campaign. It's a concerted effort to strengthen ties within the city.
Athens' artistic community, enabling each space to emerge, while cultivating a cohesive, inclusive and dynamic cultural and artistic community.
