If the city of Athens is a concrete jungle as they say, then you have just entered one of the most branching and lush parts of it. As a womb-like passage between phallic buildings declaring loudly their blaring enormity, the Athenian stoa provides a calming, fertile ground for community meet-ups and exchanges.
The architecture of the stoa and the storefronts inside of it create an environment that is simultaneously open and enclosed, intimate and public, transparent and yet reflective. Whatever lies behind the thin glass of the vitrines is, in a benjiaminian way, a fetishized reflection of the city.
In this mirrored portal, Cristina brings the tropical into the urban – with animalistic humanoids casually using and naturally merging with their environment. Stella traces the fragile bridge between self and environment, human and non-human, situating the individual experience within a broader ecological and existential narrative.
Together they cultivate an incubator where city and jungle, self and other, animal and human, intimacy and enormity interlace.

The tiny micro gallery in the Stoa Anatolis (Aristeidou 10-12) has been hosting exhibitions with artists from Berlin and Athens since summer 2024, aiming to bring the world of this secluded passage, with its quietly whirring printing presses, into touch with contemporary art. It began in June 2024 with a collaboration with the Berlin-based gallery Michael Janssen, which brought the Angolan artist Yonamine to the micro gallery.
