On October 11, Cypher is organizing an open art studio inviting visitors to connect with each other while connecting with their own creativity. Believing deeply that every person is creative and shifting the focus from an object-oriented art practice to the process of creating it, Cypher invites guests to experiment with materials while working collectively on the same project.
Materials will be provided freely and for the next 10 days this work will be on display in the Cypher space, open to transformation by its visitors.
The aim of the activity is for visitors to explore their own creativity, leave their own imprint, participate and interact with each other, enjoying the creative process,free from notions of failure, error or decay, giving way to an aesthetic impulse guided by materials. Furthermore, to provide a symbolic transitional space through the creation of a collective work that can be seen as an open system, which can transform and evolve over time. Individual and collective histories touch and are contained within this collective work, which raises questions about social interactions within artistic spaces as well as the wider communities to which they belong.
About the space
CYPHER is an artist-run, independent space established in 2024, dedicated to the exploration and celebration of contemporary art across diverse media and materials. Its mission is to create a dynamic platform where creativity and critical thought converge, offering a space for exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and social art therapy practices.
Driven by a commitment to inclusivity and community, its primary goal is to foster horizontal relationships that bridge individuals and networks from various fields, professions, and backgrounds. It aims to cultivate an open environment where artists, thinkers, and audiences can engage with art that challenges, inspires, and connects people across different genders, ethnicities, classes, and interests.
Founded in the heart of one of Athens' most vibrant, historical, and multicultural neighborhoods, Cypher is deeply committed to respecting and honoring the community that gave birth to it. One of our core goals is to build strong connections and maintain an open dialogue with the residents, ensuring that the space remains inclusive and responsive to the needs and voices of those who live there.
