A Collective of Collectives

An independent initiative to connect the many artist-run project spaces that operate in the Athenian neighborhoods.

A Collective of Collectives is a continuous collaborative effort between its participants that culminates in a yearly art festival that takes place across multiple locations in Athens.

It is a collective effort to focus on the developing art scene of Athens, to enable each space to emerge while cultivating a cohesive, inclusive and dynamic cultural and artistic community operating without a centralized authority.

Vaggelis Nanos (he/they) is a visual artist based in Athens. They graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in June 2025 and present their first solo exhibition at HGW std., titled Delululand (job application ver.).
In this exhibition, Nanos presents works developed for their diploma project, including paintings, 3D-printed reliefs, and sculptures. Through these works, they humorously deconstruct stereotypes circulated online by heteronormative gay men about what masculinity is supposed to look like. At the same time, they construct a new visual language of masculinity—one that is more personal and closer to their own lived experience.

“The Minimal Effort project began to take shape, both conceptually and aesthetically, in the summer of 2024, initiated by curator Elli Leventaki and visual artist Dimitris Kontodimos, with the aim of organizing a group exhibition centered on artworks-gestures as alternative methods of artistic production and expression. Starting from Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain, but also taking into account more recent examples, such as Maurizio Cattelan’s Comedian, the exhibition draws on the logic of ready-mades and conceptual interventions, not as artworks that are “easy” to create, conceive, or select, but rather as pieces that can convey a wide range of meanings in a concise manner.”
Participating artists:
Chara Kerasta, Markellos Kolofotias, Panayotis Lianos, Ioannis Markakis, Maria Michailidou, Elektra Stampoulou, Kostis Velonis

STRAINING AGAINST THE FRAME

Solo exhibition of Yorgos Papafigos @ypapafigos
Curated by Dinos Chatzirafailidis @kdinos_

Opening: Friday 24/04 at 19:00 ,

Duration: 24/04 - 07/06
Opening hours: Thu-Fri 19:00-22:00

Location

“In the new body of work, Yorgos Papafigos constructs hybrid systems around conditions of confinement, protection and control. In his practice, CGI, 3D scanning and printing translate the digital into sculptural matter and embodied experience. The focus shifts from the body that is confined to the structures that make its confinement possible.
Material moves between the organic and the artificial, the protective and the threatening. As mechanisms of production, care and surveillance intertwine, security and constraint cease to operate as opposing poles and share the same infrastructures. Wire fences and industrial materials that develop protrusions suggest that whatever organises or safeguards also carries the capacity to coerce.”
